No fewer than five persons including a male child lost their lives, Sunday, while 13 others sustained various degrees of injury following a multiple accident on the Lagos/Ibadan expressway.
Those who also lost their lives in the accident involving two vehicles included three male adults and one female.
The accident, which occurred at Wazobia, in Ogere Remo axis of the road, also left five children injured while 18 persons including six male children were involved.
The Ogun State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Clement Oladele confirmed the accident to INDEPENDENT.
According to Oladele, a Lagos-bound white Mazda passenger bus with registration number Ogun, DDA 121 XA, from Ibadan, lost control due to suspected dangerous driving.
Oladele said, the bus veered off its lane and collided with a parked MAN truck with registration number Lagos, MGD 129 ZF.
The Sector Commander said the driver of the bus, having realised that five people lost their lives immediately on the spot, took to his heels.
He however said a manhunt has been launched to arrest the fleeing driver and prosecute him for driving dangerously.
He said, “The commercial bus travelling from Ibadan to Lagos lost control and could not control the speed of his bus and veered off the road to collide with a trailer parked off the highway.
“Immediately the incident happened the driver of the commercial bus ran away. A man hunt has been made to arrest the driver and charge him for dangerous driving leading to the death of some of his passengers.”
Oladele said those who sustained injuries have been taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu and Victory Hospital in Ogere for medical attention while the remains of the dead passengers were deposited at Ipara Mortuary also in Remo axis.
