*Disclaims Faceless Group Campaigning On His Behalf

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has dismissed reports credited to a political group urging him to contest the 2019 Presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A group described as faceless had over the weekend launched a website to kick start campaign for Osinbajo to run in the next Presidential election on the basis that he is a right candidate to rule Nigeria.

The group listed its operational base as Belfast, Northern Ireland, with an obviously fictitious phone number.

The message on the website launched by the group did not indicate that those behind it had the consent of the Vice President to campaign on his behalf.

It put up a disclaimer on its page that its activities were unconnected to the VP, stressing that its initiative on prompting Osinbajo to run was purely voluntary.

“Note that Osinbajo did not endorse this volunteer group. We have never met him. We are strong believers in the fact that he is the right ruler for Nigeria and must create a peoples volunteer base for him,” the group stated on its website.

Reports on the voluntary campaign for Osinbajo Presidency has since been generating ripples in social media, prompting an immediate reaction from the Vice President through his media anchor, Laolu Akande.

Akande in a short a short statement posted on his twitter handle on Saturday urged Nigerians to disregard the activities of the faceless individuals.

The twit read, “Please disregard this website created by faceless people for mischievous purposes. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Vice President,”

There had been attempts in the past to create ripples around Osinbajo as some critics of the present government used their social media platforms to well up sentiments on his performance while he acted as President in the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The pro-Osinbajo sentiment was believed to have been whipped by the opposition out of mischief to create enmity between him and the President who was on medical vacation in London.

Osinbajo, at different times was described by top members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as better off in terms of performance, while they canvassed immediate resignation of President Buhari on health ground and for Osinbajo to take over.

The development had sent a wrong signal to the camp of Buhari supporters amid reports that some cabinet members loyal to the President were rattled and had caused the President to rush back to Nigeria in May after spending 51 days during his first medical vacation.

However, Osibajo who looked visibly unshaken all through while demonstrating unflagging loyalty to the President eventually earned the commendation of President Buhari who described him as a dependable deputy after he returned from London about two weeks ago.
