New Cabinet List: Two Governors Included, Fashola’s Return Threatened

Babatunde Fashola

One outgoing Governor and a governor are currently being considered as members of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s new cabinet.

Those already confirmed are Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

This has, however, thrown confusion into the camp of Babatunde Raji Fashola, whom many believed performed convincingly.

Fashola has also sensed the danger when he earlier advised that the Minister of Works should be allowed to finish the ongoing projects.

Though the national leader of APC, Bola Tinubu, was initially not at home with the appointment of Fashola, he later gave in.

It was learnt that the President already promised that he would be well compensated if he agrees to allow peace to reign during the APC crisis over a primary election in Lagos.

It will be recalled that Ambode’s second term ambition was cut off because he was alleged of not being a “good politician”. However, Ambode’s godfather, TInubu, said he performed well.

President demonstrated his commitment by coming to Lagos to inaugurate some projects constructed by Ambode. Both Tinubu and APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole were conspicuously absent at the inauguration.

Apart from his performance, the President’s likeness for Aregbesola was said to be because of his prominence and influence in South-West.

He is also a close friend of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and was said to have led the president Saudi Arabia – Makkah – on a special visit for prayers.

He is also believed to be one of the best products produced by Tinubu.
